Realization of the immortal essence

According to Gurdjief, a person in everyday life is in a more or less unconscious state of mind (in a “state of being asleep”).
The Bible describes the state of awakening as “the falling of the veil from the eyes”; when a person wakes up,
he suddenly begins to understand and see things that were previously closed to him and incomprehensible to him.

The first step in the awakening process is self-observation (self-knowledge).

The process of self-observation means that you are simply trying to notice everything that is happening to you, what makes you happier and what makes you unhappy, what is generally happening in your life, what emotionally affects you, what prevents you from being in the present tense, your responsibilities to others, in front of you and in front of the whole world.
Self-observation needs to be practiced as an exercise, that is, to train, and this training can be carried out during the day in parallel with daily activities.
At first, the self-monitoring process is turned on within a few seconds, and off within a few hours. This means that when we think about introspection, we turn on for a few seconds and then turn off again for a few hours, etc.
After practicing this exercise for several weeks, you will notice that you start to turn on for a longer time and turn off for a shorter time, that is, turn on more often and turn off less.
Self-observation can be used as an integral element of self-healing (and not only in relation to psychosomatic illnesses, but in a wider range, from dislocation to an illness that is incurable by medical standards).

Therapeutic effect:

• treats psychosomatic diseases;
• promotes peace of mind.

Realizing that our essence is immortal

The following exercise makes you realize that our essence is immortal, only the body dies:

• before going to bed, in bed, with your eyes closed, utter the sound “o” on the exhalation several times;

• having completely exhaled and made the sound “o”, feeling that it is simply impossible to continue exhaling, stop for 5-6 seconds, this is holding your breath. During it, nothing happens, not even breathing;

• during such a stop, you are carried out into the ocean. Time no longer exists, because time goes on with breathing. It seems that together with you
life also stopped. Such a stop can vividly give you an idea of the deepest source of your being – your “I”, eternal, not dependent on breathing;

• then inhale through the nose. But without any effort. Remember: direct all your efforts to exhale. Let the body breathe in. Loosen your grip, trust your body. Life itself performs the breathing process, it moves on its own course – it is a river that it is useless to urge on. You will see for yourself how the body breathes in without your participation. Neither your efforts, nor your ego, nor you yourself are needed. Become just an observer. Just watch how the body takes in air. You will feel a deep silence;

• after the body has inhaled, stop again for a moment. Watch again. Both of these moments (after exhalation and inhalation) are completely different. Stopping after a deep exhalation is like death; stopping after inhaling is like the culmination of life. You will get the idea that the body can die, but at the same time our essence, our “I” remains.

Therapeutic effect:

• strengthens the nervous system;
• awakens healing powers;
• enhances self-confidence and fearlessness.
