The Gayatri Mantra is the most sacred and most powerful mantra of the Vedas. It is believed that it contains all of their essence. The chanting of this mantra is part of the daily ritual of all devout Hindus. This mantra, which is addressed directly to the Ishvara (God) of our universe, called Savitar, is able to bring a person to union with the consciousness of Ishvara and thereby cognition of Him through his shakti (power), personified by the goddess Gayatri.
